Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Absolutely outstanding! I ordered the chicken katsu don and it was hands down one of the best I’ve ever had — perfectly crispy chicken, deliciously seasoned rice, and fresh, authentic flavours in every bite. The service was just as impressive — friendly, attentive, and welcoming from start to finish. You can tell they take real pride in what they do. Definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves great Japanese food. I’ll definitely be coming back!"
"Absolutely a hidden gem in the area. This Japanese family-run restaurant serves authentic, comforting dishes—nothing fancy, just the kind of simple, flavorful meals you'd find in a local neighbourhood spot in Japan. The warm and welcoming service truly stands out and deserves recognition. I’ll definitely be returning soon."
"Nice to finally have a delicious authentic Japanese restaurant in Hornsby. We had chicken katsu with egg and chicken karage. Chicken moist and taste all around delicious ⭐ will come back as our local dining"
"There were plenty of seats when we arrived. We ordered the chicken paitan ramen and the fried chicken rice set. The ramen noodles were nicely cooked, though the dish would have been much better if the chicken broth had been served hotter. My partner’s fried chicken was tender and juicy, but unfortunately the batter wasn’t great and lacked crispiness, which was a bit disappointing. On the bright side, we really enjoyed the potato salad. The owner was very kind and humbly listened to our feedback. We were offered 5% discount surprisingly. We look forward to coming back next time to see some improvements."
"Delicious quality food and friendly staff. So happy we found this gem. We tried the Wagyu ramen, chicken katsu, eel kabayaki and sashimi salad, all were phenomenal. We'll be back to try other dishes soon."
"Really loved the food at Takeya, Hornsby, and will definitely come again. The spicy chicken was juicy, full of flavour, and cooked perfectly with just the right amount of heat. The prawn tempura had a light, crispy crust without being oily, and the prawns inside were fresh and tender. The edamame beans were super fresh, lightly salted, and a perfect starter. Everything tasted beautifully made and well balanced. Loved it all! Quite a few good options tp choose from in the Menu."
"We had dinner here two nights in a row — it’s a lovely family-run restaurant. The owner is also the chef, and you can really taste the care and passion in every dish. Very traditional Japanese cuisine. My two boys are super picky eaters, but they absolutely love the spicy chicken ramen here! Julie"
"Been hearing about this tori paitan ramen and it definitely lived up to the expectations! Broth was creamy and very flavourful, noodles were thin and straight but cooked to perfection (still a bit of bite to it), egg and Cha siu were nicely done. Staff was friendly and looked after my toddler well. Very happy we have this in the neighbourhood! Will be back."
